Costa Norte LNG jetty – Panama
In close cooperation with our client BAM International we tailored a proven BAM International technical solution for one of their projects in Panama. For the construction of the LNG jetty at the Costa Norte LNG terminal BAM International did require a stand-alone piling-template for the piling activities.
As in the project some of the piles were installed at close distance of each other as well under an angle a versatile smart solution was required to position and guide the piles.
MPS modular pontoons were assembled in an unconventional U-shape to create desired stand-alone ‘piling-template’. This in combination with 4 pieces 30 meter long spud-legs and the standard MPS hydraulic spud-leg jacking system the ‘piling-template ‘ platform is used in Jack-Up function.

A contract to design and construct an LNG import jetty and an intake / outfall structure for the Costa Norte LNG Terminal in Panama. A joint venture consisting of BAM International, and ICONSA, a marine construction company active in Panama, started design works while work on site commenced in the first quarter of 2017. The project was completed in April 2018. The contract value for the BAM ICONSA joint venture is around US$ 39 million (€ 35 million).
The BAM ICONSA joint venture’s scope comprised the marine facilities, consisting of the LNG jetty with a 216-metre-long trestle, a 50m x 35m platform, four breasting dolphins, six mooring dolphins as well as the intake and outfall structure. Sister company BAM Infraconsult/DMC was involved in the design of the new jetty.
The Costa Norte LNG Terminal, the first LNG facility built in Panama, is located near the Caribbean entrance of the Panama Canal, Colon, Panama. The import jetty is designed to receive LNG vessels in the range of 30,000 – 180,000m3. The project was carried out in close cooperation with local suppliers and involvement of local workers as a key factor to successfully deliver this project
