MPS at Milford Haven, England
The MPS – Modular Pontoon Systems jack up barge JU 36201 was used in the Southbay Civil Engineering project awarded by the Port of Milford Haven for the refurbishment and strengthening of a navigation beacon located at Milford Haven, South Wales.
Mid Channel Rock Beacon is located approximately 1 nautical mile from the Port of Milford Haven and was constructed in 1966.
As well as housing a navigational light to safely navigate ships into the port, the structure also holds meteorological and wave monitoring equipment.
The MPS – Modular Pontoon Systems jack up barge JU 36201, complete with a 200T Crawler Crane has been used to access the structure. Southbay’s scope includes repairs to concrete foundations, removal of existing fixings, installation of a new structural steel sleeve complete with ladders and fendering, and replacement of equipment within the tower house of the beacon.
Due to the remote and challenging nature of the site, significant pre- planning was required to ensure that the JU36201 was suitable and could operate safely on location. MPS – Modular Pontoon Systems strategic partner GeoSeacore has undertaken all pre-preparing, including the jack up standing instructions, SSA, seafastening design and tow planning.
During the project MPS – Modular Pontoon Systems / GeoSeacore are also managing the daily operations including provision of bargemaster and crews.
