In close cooperation with the engineering department of DEME group a ‘spreader’ pontoon was designed using the MPS type 465 and 265 containers. The pontoon has two floats of 24.38 x 4.88 x 1.98m and is connected with custom designed beams and a frame the holds a winch for lifting and lowering the T-shaped distribution head. The floating tube can pass in between the gap of the pontoon. This set-up allows to backfill an aera with gravel or sand is shallow draft conditions between 1,5 and 8m waterdepth and with high accuracy. The system has been deployed and used on two projects, latest in Portugal by ‘Baggerwerken deCloedt en zonen’ a subsidiary company of DEME-Group.
